The round shield was a staple of warfare throughout human history. From the very earliest shields discovered right up to the Renaissance, the maneuverability and utility of the round shield as a battlefield weapon has made it so. The buckler was a logical next step for the shield in daily life to facilitate protection of the sword hand. They were easy to carry due to their small size, and played a major role in the martial traditions of the late medieval and renaissance periods.

Chris Gorman's Asgard buckler was designed with practicality and durability in mind. With the strength of modern high-quality plywoods, they are built to perform. They feature tough 14 gauge steel shield bosses (exact shape and finish may vary), and measure 1/2 inches thick. Each buckler is 12" in diameter and weighs approximately 2 lbs.

These shields are ideal for Renaissance faires and SCA events. Many of our shields are in active SCA heavy combat use by knights in the Northern Army. They have been used to great effect in combat, with little to no damage, even after many events, practices, and campaigns.

Our Asgard line sets itself apart with exceedingly high build quality and a hint more historical accuracy than out basic line. Each is faced with canvas for strength and paintability, as well as assembled with 1/4" solid steel rivets. Each Asgard line shield is trimmed with rawhide and laced with waxed thread.
